Prison Rape Elimination Act

The Beauregard Parish Jail and Beauregard Parish Transitional Work Program Facility are committed to and have adopted a ZERO-TOLERANCE standard for sexual abuse and/or sexual harassment of inmates by staff (including contractors and volunteers) and other inmates. The Jail and Work Release Facility strive to cultivate an environment where employees as well as inmates, regardless of age, race, gender, or sex are both safe and free from any type of sexual related misconduct. Sexual contact is strictly prohibited even if the involved person(s) agree to it.

PREA ANNUAL REPORT 2022

All PREA allegations are tracked. Only the aggregated numbers will be reported annually on the Beauregard Parish website. Information reported will not be indicative the victim nor the aggressor. Anonymity will ensure the integrity of the process and encourage the reporting of all PREA allegations in the future.

ANALYSIS

During the 2022 calendar year, there were a total of 10 PREA related allegations.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Louisiana Workforce-Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office (BPSOSWTWP) has implemented PREA and adopted rules and regulations for the deterrence, protection, and reporting of prison rapes. These rules include but are not limited to the immediate separation of victim and perpetrator through the use of administrative segregation or suspension pending investigation for employees and if substantiated, the filing of criminal charges against the perpetrator whether staff or offender. Louisiana Workforce-BPSOSWTWP has also made anonymous third party reporting available through Oasis and The National Rape Crisis Hotline, using a toll-free number. Further specialized training has been made mandatory for PREA Investigators and Medical/Mental Health. Louisiana Workforce-BPSOSWTWP began the audit process and has made changes to facility regulations to continue compliance with mandatory standards. Louisiana Workforce-BPSOSWTWP, has successfully completed the PREA audit process and obtained certification.
