K-9
The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office depends on the use of the K-9 Team to assist Deputies with narcotic detection, building and contraband searches, criminal apprehension and also to assist other Law Enforcement agencies that utilize K-9 operations. The K-9 Team also provide demonstrations at local schools and community events upon request.
The Sheriff's Office K-9 operations includes joint training with the DeRidder Police Department K-9 Teams. Instructional training is done several hours a week in order to perform assignments on-duty, on-call and to uphold certification.
The Handler is Ben Pearson and he is responsible for the overall welfare of K-9 Max (pictured). Max is a four-year old German Shepherd that was imported by Deputy Pearson from ApexK9 in the United Kingdom. Upon arrival to the United States, Max was trained as a dual purpose patrol K-9 by Coty Rizan.
Deputy Pearson and Max are on call 24/7.
